Can Headache Be Related to the Jaw Joint or Teeth Clenching?

Headache has many causes. That said, overactivity of the masticatory muscles, TMD and bruxism can, in some people, accompany pain in the temple and face region.

Headache can arise from many different causes. For this reason, a general conclusion such as "the cause of the headache is the teeth" is not correct. That said, overactivity of the masticatory muscles, TMD and bruxism can, in some people, accompany pain in the temple and face region. In particular, if morning jaw fatigue, pain in the jaw joint, a complaint that increases with chewing, signs of teeth clenching or limited mouth opening accompany the headache, an assessment of the masticatory system may be useful. A dental assessment is not an alternative to neurological or other medical assessment. A newly started severe headache, neurological findings or systemic symptoms require medical assessment. The aim is to assess any possible contribution from the mouth and jaw in the right place.
