Paediatric Dentistry

It is important that a child's dental visit does not begin only when there is pain. Early check-ups help with the health of the milk teeth, decay risk, oral-hygiene habits, trauma and monitoring tooth eruption.

The first visit

The first visit is preferably planned to be as short and calm as possible, so that the child forms a positive relationship with the clinic. Depending on age and need, an examination alone may be carried out.

Frequently asked questions

Why are milk teeth important?

They are important for nutrition, speech, jaw development and guiding the permanent teeth.

Is fluoride application safe?

It is applied by the clinician at a dose and by a method suited to age and decay risk. Unnecessary or uncontrolled use is not recommended.

Is root canal treatment carried out in children?

Depending on the condition of the milk or permanent tooth, pulp treatments may be carried out. The choice of treatment varies with the root development of the tooth and how long it needs to stay in the mouth.

When is the first orthodontic check-up?

An early assessment may be carried out where there is a concern about the jaw relationship, an eruption disorder or crowding. Active treatment at the same age is not needed in every child.

Treatment duration

The first visit is preferably planned to be as short and calm as possible, so that the child forms a positive relationship with the clinic. The check-up interval is determined by decay risk and development.

When it may not be suitable

Applications such as fluoride are carried out by the clinician at a dose and by a method suited to age and decay risk; unnecessary or uncontrolled use is not recommended.
