Bone grafting is a general term covering the materials and surgical techniques used to create the required volume around an implant or to support the existing bone. The material and method used vary with the case.

Suitability is determined by an individual examination. Situations such as uncontrolled systemic disease, certain medications, active infection, inadequate oral hygiene or a history of radiotherapy to the head and neck region may affect the plan.
